Signs your marriage is headed toward divorce

When you think that your marriage is over, figuring it out for sure becomes a priority. One thing that you don't want to do is try to stick it out when it isn't going to work. There are some signs that you can look for that might signal the need to just cut your losses and move on with life.

One huge sign is if you are being treated in a disrespectful manner. Part of being in a marriage is having mutual respect for each other. When this isn't happening, it is possible that your ex will continue to become more and more disrespectful and mean.

Another sign is that you have no fight left in you. If your marriage is going to work, you have to be willing to fight for it. You have to be willing to put effort into making it work. When you realize that you can't do that or don't want to, the marriage likely won't work.

Conversely, if you are putting all the effort into saving your marriage and your spouse isn't trying, you might be wasting your energy. Take a close look at the dynamics of the relationship to determine whether you and your spouse are each doing your part.

For some people, a lack of mutual interest and decreased love signal that it is time to stop trying. You and your ex should be able to disagree and work through matters without it always devolving into a fight. You should be able to forget and move forward with love and caring.

Constant negative emotions in the marriage can also be a sign that divorce is imminent. This might be distance, anger, irritability, meanness or similar behaviors on the part of either spouse.

If the marriage ends, ensure that you are ready to protect yourself. You need to make decisions during the divorce that are in your best interests.
